There's a big international jewish congress comming up next month (August 23 – 31) in Vilnius, Lithuania, with a week load of events, talks, spiels, klezmer, etc.
The Vilnius (Vilna / ווילנע in Yiddish) jewish community has been at the heart of Ashkenazi culture for centuries, from the Gaon of Vilna to its Yiddish writing inteligencia. They have been through a lot of shit in the twentieth century from both the Nazis and the Soviet Communists but they are still an extremely vibrant and active community. They are eager to network with jews from around the world, especially young jews.
Here's the invitation, program and registration form.
If anyone is interested in comming down for it and needs a place to stay, give me a private message as I might be able to put you up in my apartment.
Come! Its beautiful out here!
